How do I interpret the information in the packing slip for books in production?

The following information is being provided to help customers interpret the information contained in the description section of a packing slip or invoice for books that are in production (i.e. work in progress). The book Glencoe Health: A Guide to Wellness (Student Workbook) is being used as an example:

  • Line 1: Title (GLENCOE HEALTH: A GUIDE TO WELLNESS)
  • Line 2: Title (STUDENT WORKBOOK)
  • Line 3: ISBN (13 Digit /10 Digit)
  • Line 4: Copyright
  • Line 5: Volume(s)
  • Line 6: Braille Pages
  • Line 7: Tactile Graphics
  • Line 8:
  • Line 9: THIS BOOK IS CURRENTLY IN PRODUCTION
  • Line 10:
  • Line 11: SV1-SV3 and V1-5 / 745
  • Line 12: 344 Tactile Graphics

Line 1 - identifies the book title
Line 2 - continues the book title (if needed)
*NOTE: If only one line is needed for the title, the following lines are moved up one
Line 3 – identifies the International Student Book Number (ISBN); first by the 13 digit, followed by the 10 digit
Line 4 – identifies the copyright year
Line 5 – identifies the number of volumes (empty until book is completed)
Line 6 – identifies the number of braille pages (empty until book is completed)
Line 7 – identifies the number of tactile graphics (empty until book is completed)
Line 9 – indicates the book is in production and additional volumes are forthcoming
Line 11 – “SV” is an abbreviation for Supplement Volume and “V” is an abbreviation for Volume. Therefore, Line 11 indicates Supplement Volumes 1 thru 3 and Volumes 1 thru 5 are being mailed in this shipment. After the volume information, a diagonal line appears with a number after it. This number represents the number of braille pages in this shipment.
Line 12 - indicates there are 344 tactile graphics being mailed in this shipment.

What if I find braille errors?

We guarantee that all braille errors reported to MBTF will be corrected promptly and replacement page(s) shipped at no charge.

Our goal is to assure that your students consistently receive accurate transcriptions. We ask for your assistance to correct errors; send us a photocopy of the print page from the textbook with the error circled and the braille volume number written on top of the print page.  Include your name, telephone number and address.
